Egrifta Side Effects

Commonly reported side effects of Egrifta include redness or pain at the injection site, joint and muscle pain, and swelling of the arms and legs. Fortunately, most people have no problems with this medicine and tolerate it well. Potentially serious reactions that may require medical care include trouble breathing, fainting, and severe joint pain or numbness.

An Introduction to Egrifta Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Egrifta™ (tesamorelin acetate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Egrifta

Egrifta has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were documented and then compared to those that occurred in a similar group of people taking a placebo (an injection with no active ingredient). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the group taking the placebo.

In these studies, common Egrifta side effects included:

  • Joint pain -- in up to 13.3 percent of people
  • Redness, itching, or pain at the injection site -- up to 8.5 percent
  • Pain in the arms and legs -- up to 6.1 percent
  • Peripheral edema (swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet) -- up to 6.1 percent
  • Muscle pain -- up to 5.5 percent
  • Sensations of prickling, tingling, or numbness -- up to 4.8 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 4.4 percent
  • Hypoesthesia (decreased sensation) -- up to 4.2 percent
  • Rash -- up to 3.7 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 2.6 percent
  • Itching -- up to 2.4 percent
  • Depression -- up to 2 percent
  • Heart palpitations -- up to 1.1 percent.

Injection site pain and bruising may possibly be related to injection technique. Change your site with each injection to decrease your chance of these particular side effects.
