Emtriva Drug Interactions

Emtriva drug interactions can occur when the medication is taken with ganciclovir, ribavirin, or a number of other medicines. Some of these interactions may increase your risk of side effects, particularly the side effects that affect blood cells. To avoid these complications, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any interactions with Emtriva that may apply to you. If Emtriva drug interactions are a concern, your healthcare provider may closely monitor your blood counts.

 

Emtriva Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Emtriva® (emtricitabine) can potentially interact with a few other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Emtriva interactions include:
 
  • Ganciclovir (Cytovene®)
  • Lamivudine products, including:

 

 

  • Other medications that contain emtricitabine, such as:

 

 

  • Ribavirin (Copegus®, Rebetol®, Ribasphere®, Virazole®)
  • Valganciclovir (Valcyte™).

Ganciclovir (Cytovene)
Combining ganciclovir with Emtriva may increase your risk of Emtriva side effects, particularly the side effects that affect blood cells. Your healthcare provider may need to closely monitor your blood counts.
