Who Should Not Take Epoetin Alfa?

You should not take epoetin alfa if you:
 
  • Are allergic to epoetin alfa, Epogen, Procrit, or any inactive components (including albumin) used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Are allergic to mammalian cell-derived products (since epoetin alfa is made in mammalian cells).
     
  • Have uncontrolled (untreated) high blood pressure.
