Epoetin alfa has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which side effects are carefully documented. In these studies, the most common side effects of epoetin alfa included:
 
  • Nausea -- in up to 58 percent of people
  • Constipation -- up to 53 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 44 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 29 percent
  • Fever -- up to 29 percent
  • Irritation, redness, or pain at the injection site -- up to 29 percent
  • Infection -- up to 27 percent.
