Epzicom Side Effects
Headaches or migraines, fatigue, and insomnia are some of the most common side effects reported with Epzicom. Side effects that are much less common but potentially serious include frequent infections, changes in the distribution of fat on your body, and unusual bleeding or bruising. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop any serious Epzicom side effects.

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Epzicom™ (abacavir/lamivudine); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Epzicom. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Epzicom side effects with you.)
The exact formulation of Epzicom has not been studied in clinical trials. In fact, the available side effect information involves a study that used the two medications in Epzicom plus another HIV medication. Therefore, it is impossible to know whether these side effects are due to Epzicom or the other HIV medication. Based on this study, the most common side effects of Epzicom (plus another HIV medication) included:
- Insomnia -- in up to 7 percent of people
- Headaches or migraines -- up to 7 percent
- Fatigue or a general ill feeling (malaise) -- up to 6 percent
- Dizziness or a spinning sensation (vertigo) -- up to 6 percent.
Other common side effects (occurring in 3 to 5 percent of people) included:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Rash
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
- Abnormal dreams.
