Basic Instructions for Fuzeon

When and How to Take Fuzeon

General considerations for when and how to take Fuzeon include the following:

  • The medication comes in the form of an injection. It is injected just under the skin (subcutaneously) of the upper arm, abdomen (stomach), or the front of the thigh twice daily.

  • Try to rotate the injection sites. Avoid any area of the skin that is irritated, broken, scarred, tattooed, or has any other problem or abnormality. Your healthcare provider can help you choose the best injection sites that do not have any large nerves or blood vessels.

  • Fuzeon comes as a dry powder that must be mixed with Sterile Water for Injection (which comes with it) before each dose. Be sure you know exactly how to prepare your injection.

  • Try to take Fuzeon at the same times every day to maintain an even level in your blood.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. It is very important that you closely follow your healthcare provider's instructions on taking Fuzeon. Missing doses can increase the chance of the virus developing a resistance to the medication, thereby making it less effective.
