Hivid Drug Interactions

Hivid drug interactions with other medications, such as antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum, can alter the amount of Hivid in your blood. As a result, these interactions can increase your risk of side effects or decrease the effectiveness of Hivid. To avoid these problems, be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about any drug interactions with Hivid that may apply to you.

Hivid Drug Interactions: An Introduction

(This medication is no longer available. This medication was not discontinued for safety reasons. The manufacturer of Hivid chose to stop making it because current HIV treatment guidelines recommended using newer medications, rather than Hivid.)

 

Hivid® (zalcitabine) can potentially interact with a few other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Hivid interactions include:
 
  • Antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum
  • Certain antibiotics or antifungal medications, including:

 

    • Amikacin (Amikin®)
    • Amphotericin B (Abelcet®, AmBisome®, Amphotec®, Fungizone®)
    • Chloramphenicol (Chloromycetin®)
    • Dapsone (Aczone®)
    • Ethionamide (Trecator-SC®)
    • Gentamicin
    • Isoniazid
    • Kanamycin (Kantrex®)
    • Metronidazole (Flagyl®)
    • Neomycin (Neo-Fradin®)
    • Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid, Macrodantin®)
    • Streptomycin
    • Tobramycin
