Drug Interactions With Lamivudine

Some of the medicines that could cause drug interactions with lamivudine include zalcitabine, ribavirin, and interferon medications. When these drugs interact with lamivudine, side effects may occur and the level of lamivudine in your body may increase. To help prevent lamivudine interactions, make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before taking other medications.

 

Lamivudine Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Lamivudine (Epivir®) can potentially interact with a few other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to lamivudine interactions include:
 
  • Interferon medications, such as:

 

    • Interferon alfa-2a (Roferon®-A)
    • Interferon alfa-2b (Intron® A)
    • Interferon alfa-2b and ribavirin (Rebetron®)
    • Interferon alfa-n3 (Alferon® N)
    • Interferon alfacon-1 (Infergen®)
    • Interferon beta-1a (Avonex®, Rebif®)
    • Interferon beta-1b (Betaseron®)
    • Interferon gamma-1b (Actimmune®)
    • Peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys®)
    • Peginterferon alfa-2b (PEG-Intron®)

 

  • Ribavirin (Copegus®, Rebetol®, Ribasphere®, Virazole®)
  • Trimethaprim and sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim®, Septra®)
  • Zalcitabine (Hivid®).
