AIDS Home > Agenerase Dosage

Your Agenerase dosage will depend on factors such as your age, weight, and other medical conditions you have. The recommended dose for adults with HIV or AIDS is 1200 mg twice daily. For treating children, the Agenerase dosage is based on weight and the child's age. Agenerase solution should not be taken by anyone who is able to swallow the capsules.

Agenerase Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of Agenerase® (amprenavir) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • Your age
  • Your weight (for children)
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking.
As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Agenerase is no longer available in the United States. The manufacturer stopped making it due to low demand, since it has been largely replaced by fosamprenavir (Lexiva®), a similar medication.

Agenerase Dosage for Adults

The recommended dose of Agenerase for treating adults with HIV or AIDS is Agenerase 1200 mg twice daily. Unfortunately, Agenerase capsules only come in one strength (50 mg), which means that the recommended dose for adults is 24 capsules twice daily. If Agenerase is combined with Norvir® (ritonavir), then either of the following dosing regimens is recommended:
  • Agenerase 1200 mg (24 capsules) once daily, plus Norvir 200 mg once daily
  • Agenerase 600 mg (12 capsules), plus Norvir 100 mg twice daily.
Adults should not take Agenerase solution. It contains propylene glycol, which can be dangerous in large amounts, and anyone who is able to take the capsules should not take the solution. Pregnant women and people with liver or kidney failure should never take Agenerase solution.
