AIDS Home > Prezista Dosage
For adults who have already taken HIV medications before, the recommended Prezista dosage is 600 mg twice a day, taken with food. For children who have HIV or AIDS, the recommended dosage will vary, based on the child's weight and other factors. To help prevent HIV from developing resistance to medicines, you must follow Prezista dosing guidelines as prescribed.
The dose of Prezista™ (darunavir ethanolate) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age
- Your weight (in children)
- Whether you have taken other HIV medications before
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may be currently taking.
As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Prezista Dosage for AdultsPrezista is always combined with ritonavir (Norvir®), another HIV medication that increases the level of Prezista in the blood and helps it work better.
The recommended dose of Prezista for treating adults with HIV or AIDS who have already taken HIV medications before ("treatment-experienced" individuals) is Prezista 600 mg (two 300-mg tablets) twice daily with food, taken with ritonavir 100 mg twice daily. Such individuals might be able to take a once-a-day dosage (800 mg once daily with food, taken with ritonavir 100 mg once daily) if tests show that their version of HIV is not resistant to Prezista.
For adults who have not taken HIV medications before ("treatment-naïve" individuals), the recommended Prezista dosage is 800 mg (two Prezista 400 mg tablets) taken once a day with food, combined with ritonavir once daily.
