Norvir Drug Interactions

Disulfiram, amiodarone, and alfuzosin are some of the medications that should never be taken with Norvir. Drug interactions may occur if these medicines are taken together that could lead to dangerous side effects. The effectiveness of the medicines can also be reduced. Other medications that can cause negative Norvir drug interactions include steroids, tramadol, hormonal contraceptives, and blood pressure medications.

 

Norvir Drug Interactions: An Overview

Norvir® (ritonavir) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Norvir drug interactions include:
 
  • Alfuzosin (Uroxatral®)
  • Antidepressants
  • Antipsychotic medications
  • Arrhythmia medications
  • Atovaquone (Mepron®)
  • Blood pressure medications
  • Certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, such as:
 
    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)
    • Voriconazole (Vfend®)
 
  • Certain anxiety or sleep medications, such as:
 
 
 
 
  • Ergot medications, such as:
 
    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergonovine
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Methylergonovine (Methergine®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)
 
 
    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)
 
  • Meperidine (Demerol®)
  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
  • Methamphetamine (Desoxyn®)
  • Metronidazole (Flagyl®)
  • Other protease inhibitors, such as:
 
 
  • Pimozide (Orap®)
  • Propoxyphene medications (Darvocet®, Darvon®)
  • Quinine (Qualaquin™)
  • Seizure medications
  • Some statin medications, such as:
 
 
  • St. John's wort
  • Steroids, such as prednisone (Deltasone®) or dexamethasone (Decadron®)
  • Theophylline (Uniphyl®, Theocron®, TheoCap®, Theo-24®, Elixophyllin®)
  • Tramadol (Ultram®) or tramadol and acetaminophen (Ultracet™)
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
