Rescriptor Dosage

The recommended Rescriptor dosage for adults and adolescents 16 years and over is 400 mg three times a day. This can be taken as either two 200-mg tablets or four 100-mg tablets. People who do not produce stomach acid (a condition called achlorhydria) should take their Rescriptor dose with an acidic beverage to help the medicine absorb into the bloodstream.

Rescriptor Dosage: An Introduction

There is only one standard recommended dose of Rescriptor® (delavirdine mesylate). As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

General Information on Dosing With Rescriptor

Considerations for people taking Rescriptor include the following:

  • The medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth three times a day.

  • You can take Rescriptor with or without food.

  • People who do not produce stomach acid (known medically as achlorhydria) should take Rescriptor with an acidic beverage (such as orange juice or cranberry juice), as stomach acid is necessary to absorb the drug into the bloodstream.

  • Rescriptor 100 mg tablets (but not 200 mg tablets) can be mixed with water. Add four tablets to at least three ounces of water and wait for a few minutes. Stir the water and drink immediately. Afterwards, rinse the glass with water and drink the rinse water in order to make sure that you get the full dose (Rescriptor can stick to the sides of the glass).

  • Try to take Rescriptor at the same times every day to maintain an even level in your blood.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. It is very important that you closely follow your healthcare provider's instructions about taking Rescriptor. Missing doses can increase the chance of the virus developing resistance to the medication, thereby making it less effective.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your Rescriptor dosage, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking the drug without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
