Taking Reyataz With Other Drugs

Reyataz Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Reyataz is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alfuzosin
Reyataz should not be combined with alfuzosin, as this may increase the amount of alfuzosin in the blood to dangerous levels.

Antacids
Antacids may decrease the level of Reyataz in your blood. In order to avoid this drug interaction, be sure to take Reyataz at least two hours before or one hour after taking an antacid medication.

Bosentan
Reyataz may increase the level of bosentan in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to lower your bosentan dosage while you are taking Reyataz.

Buprenorphine
Reyataz may increase the level of buprenorphine in the blood, perhaps increasing the risk of side effects of buprenorphine. In addition, buprenorphine may decrease the level of Reyataz in the blood, perhaps making it less effective. If you take Reyataz without ritonavir (Norvir®), you should not take buprenorphine. If you take Reyataz with ritonavir (which is used to boost the level of Reyataz in the blood), this interaction is probably unimportant.

Certain Antibiotics or Antifungals
Combining Reyataz with certain antibiotics or antifungals may increase or decrease the level of both Reyataz and the antibiotic or antifungal in your blood. Check with your healthcare provider before taking Reyataz with any of these medications. It should never be combined with rifampin, since rifampin may make Reyataz less effective.

Certain Arrhythmia Medications
Reyataz may increase the level of certain arrhythmia medications in your blood, possibly increasing the risk of dangerous side effects. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking Reyataz with one of these medications.
