Reyataz Side Effects

Vomiting, insomnia, headaches, and nausea are the most commonly reported side effects of Reyataz. In most cases, side effects are minor and either don't require treatment or can be treated easily. However, if you develop any serious Reyataz side effects, such as an irregular heart rhythm, depression, or jaundice, be sure to seek medical attention immediately.

Reyataz Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Reyataz® (atazanavir sulfate); however, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Reyataz. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of Reyataz side effects with you.)

Common Side Effects of Reyataz

Clinical studies have not evaluated Reyataz alone for the treatment of HIV, since it is meant to be used along with other HIV medications. In fact, the available information on side effects involves studies that used Reyataz plus two other HIV medications. Therefore, it is difficult to determine whether these side effects are due to Reyataz or the other HIV medications.

Based on these studies, the most common side effects of Reyataz (plus two other HIV medications) included:

  • Nausea -- in up to 14 percent of people
  • Headaches -- up to 6 percent
  • Vomiting -- up to 4 percent
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 4 percent
  • Muscle pain -- up to 4 percent
  • Insomnia -- up to 3 percent
  • Diarrhea -- up to 3 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 2 percent
  • Fever -- up to 2 percent.
