Selzentry Side Effects: An Introduction
As with any medicine, side effects are possible with
Selzentry™ (
maraviroc). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Selzentry Side Effects
Clinical studies have not evaluated Selzentry alone for the treatment of
HIV, as it is only approved for use along with other HIV medications. In fact, the information that is available on potential side effects involves studies that used Selzentry plus other HIV medications. Therefore, it is difficult to know whether these side effects are due to Selzentry or the other HIV medications. In these studies, the most common side effects of Selzentry (plus other HIV medications) included:
- Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- in up to 20 percent of people
- Coughing -- up to 12.7 percent
- Fever -- up to 12 percent
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 8.2 percent
- Dizziness -- up to 8.2 percent
- Changes in appetite -- up to 7.3 percent
- Insomnia -- up to 7 percent.
