Sustiva Drug Interactions

There are a number of medicines that should not be taken with Sustiva. Drug interactions may occur if Sustiva is taken with certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, protease inhibitors, certain statin cholesterol drugs, or methadone. These Sustiva drug interactions can decrease the effectiveness of the medicines and increase your risk for serious side effects, such as an irregular heart rhythm.

 

Sustiva Drug Interactions: An Overview

Sustiva® (efavirenz) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of the medicines that may lead to Sustiva drug interactions include:
 
  • Bepridil (Vascor®)
 
  • Certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, such as:
 
    • Azithromycin (Zithromax®)
    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)
    • Voriconazole (Vfend®)
 
  • Certain benzodiazepine medications, such as:
 
 
  • Certain seizure medications, such as:
 
 
 
  • Ergot medications, such as:
 
    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)
 
 
  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
 
  • Pimozide (Orap®)
 
  • Protease inhibitors, such as:
 
 
 
 
 
 
  • Warfarin (Coumadin®, Jantoven®).
