Treatment Info for Trizivir

When and How to Take Trizivir

General considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Trizivir include the following:

  • Trizivir comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth twice a day.

  • You can take this medicine with or without food. If it bothers your stomach, try taking it with food.

  • Try to take Trizivir at the same times each day to maintain an even level in your blood.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. It is very important that you closely follow your healthcare provider's instructions about taking Trizivir. Missing doses can increase the chance of the virus developing resistance to it, making the medicine less effective.

Dosing Information

There is only one standard dose of Trizivir, regardless of your age or weight. However, this drug is usually not recommended for people with kidney or liver disease or for people weighing less than 88 pounds, since the dosages of the individual components cannot be adjusted separately.

For these people, the three medications in Trizivir are usually taken separately instead so that the appropriate dosages can be achieved.

As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.
