Pediatric and Off-Label Truvada Indications

Truvada Uses in Children

Truvada is approved for use in adolescents as young as 12 years old (for HIV treatment, not prevention). It is not approved for use in younger children. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using the drug in children.

Off-Label Truvada Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Truvada for treating something other than HIV infection and AIDS. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, Truvada is used off-label to prevent HIV infection in people who have been exposed to the virus (such as a healthcare worker who comes in contact with a contaminated needle stick). This is called postexposure prophylaxis (PEP).
