Viracept Drug Interactions

When certain medications are taken together with Viracept, drug interactions could occur that may affect the effectiveness of the medicines or increase your risk for side effects. Medications that may cause negative Viracept interactions include proton pump inhibitors, certain antibiotics, methadone, and erectile dysfunction medications.

 

Viracept Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Viracept® (nelfinavir mesylate) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Viracept interactions include:
 
  • Certain antibiotics, such as:

 

 

  • Certain arrhythmia medications, including amiodarone (Cordarone®) and quinidine
     
  • Certain benzodiazepines, including:

 

 

 

 

  • Ergot medications, such as:

 

    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergonovine
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Methylergonovine (Methergine®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)

 

  • Fluticasone (Flonase®, Flovent®, Veramyst®) or combination medications that contain fluticasone (Advair®)
  • Immune-suppressing medications, including:

 

    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)

 

  • Methadone (Dolophine®, Methadose®)
  • Nevirapine (Viramune®)
  • Other protease inhibitors, such as:

 

 

 

 

  • Seizure medications
  • Some statin medications, including:
