Fentanyl (Actiq, Duragesic, Fentora)
Viramune can make fentanyl less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your fentanyl dose in order to achieve appropriate pain control.
Immune Suppressing Medications
Viramune may decrease the level of some immune suppressing medications in your blood, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely and increase the dose of your immune suppressing medication.
Methadone (Dolophine, Methadose)
Viramune can decrease the level of methadone in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your methadone dosage.
Oral Contraceptives (Birth Control Pills)
Viramune may decrease the effectiveness of
birth control pills, increasing the risk of pregnancy. For women taking Viramune, a non-hormonal method of contraception (such as condoms) is recommended.
Protease Inhibitors
Viramune may interact with protease inhibitors, decreasing the level of the protease inhibitor in your blood. Your healthcare provider may need to increase the dose of your protease inhibitor.
Seizure Medications
Viramune can decrease the level of some
seizure medications in your blood, perhaps making them less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase the dose of your
seizure medications.
St. John's Wort
Because
St. John's wort can greatly reduce the level of Viramune in your blood, these medications should never be taken together.
Warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven)
Viramune can interact with warfarin. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor you more closely while you are taking warfarin with Viramune.
