Viramune Drug Interactions

A number of medications, including calcium channel blockers, oral contraceptives, and protease inhibitors, may interact negatively with Viramune. Drug interactions may occur that could increase or decrease the level of medicines in your blood (which can also reduce their effectiveness). Other medications that may cause negative Viramune interactions include fentanyl, seizure medicines, warfarin, and certain antibiotics or antifungals.

 

Viramune Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Viramune® (nevirapine) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Viramune interactions include:
 

 

 
  • Certain antibiotics and antifungal medications, such as:

 

    • Clarithromycin (Biaxin®)
    • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
    • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®)
    • Itraconazole (Sporanox®)
    • Rifabutin (Mycobutin®)
    • Rifampin (Rifadin®)

 

 

    • Bromocriptine (Parlodel®)
    • Dihydroergotamine (Migranal®)
    • Ergotamine (Bellamine S®, Cafergot®, Ergomar®)
    • Pergolide (Permax®)

 

  • Fentanyl (Actiq®, Duragesic®, Fentora®)
  • Immune-suppressing medications, including:

 

    • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
    • Sirolimus (Rapamune®)
    • Tacrolimus (Prograf®)
